Polka Doodles Challenge No. 2 and DCM Challenge - Take 5

Isn't it just the best weekend weatherwise and doesn't it lift the spirits when the sun shines. We've been pond building, BBQing and generally soaking up the rays over the last couple of days (more of that today too). So I decided that to keep my time indoors to a minimum I would try and combine a couple of challenges this week. I don't normally do that so I hope I will be forgiven for wanting to take advantage of the great weather we're having at the moment.

On Daring Cardmakers this week the challenge as follows:-

Take Five

The team would like you to make a card that features five things that are the same. So that could be five circles, five brads, five birds, five ribbons or five of anything you like really, as long as you can fit them on your card!

And on Polka Doodles Freddie Foo Foo as given us this super sketch:-

I'm sorry about the quality of the photographs - the sunshine does have some drawbacks!!! I think you can see the background of the card in the 2nd photo is creamier than in the 1st - that's the better likeness.

Instead of using the "old bit of cardboard" on my card this week I decided to make it my card base just for a change . Ive used the super duper papers (that I think are from the new Sugar Birdies CD) that Nikky sent me and for the "5" elements - Ive used 5 card candy, Ive punched out 5 small daisies and Ive used 5 Patties Pretties for the centres. There's lots and lots of stitching and a bit of doodling and the rub-ons are by Melissa Frances.

Number 2 on Polka Doodles 1st Challenge

Wooooo I can't believe it! I was picked as the No. 2 winning card entry for the very first Polka Doodles Challenge last week. Nikky sent me some lovely digital papers and I'm thinking they're from the new Sugar Birdies CD that is available to pre-order right now. If these are anything to go by the CD will be just amazing. Mine's already on order!! AND... I get to display the special blinky she sent me too. How good is that!! Thanks again Nikky.

Polka Doodles 1st Challenge

This is the sketch over at ICSketches this week:-

And this is my take on it:-

Stamp is by Sugar Nellie - Gorjuss Girls "A Little Birdie Told Me" Coloured in with Copics (I still use a watercolour pencil for the skin tone as I haven't mastered this bit with the copics yet!). For the rest of the card I've mainly used up scraps I have lying around this week. The background is the remainder of the Basic Grey "Lime Rickey" paper that I cut a strip off for last weeks challenge. Other scraps of papers are from Craftwork Cards "Allsorts" collection, I found the cuttlebug embossed card in my card stash and the flowers are all from little left overs in the stash too. I just punched out some circles and then bashed the edges with the sharp edge of my scissors to get the finished look. Sentiment is from Crafwork Cards and I've finished the flower centres off with co-ordinating Patti's Pretties.

I'm really making an effort to do more stamping lately and I'm so enjoying it even though I do make a right old mess. I tried "misting" the image after I' first stamped it (using a multi-coloured Adirondack ink pad) but it just ran everywhere lol. On the second attempt when I thought I'd cracked it - it just dried all dull and yucky. So in the end I decided to just colour the stamp with my Marvy le Plumes and keep it simple - why make life difficult lol.

Allsorts Challenge 1

Ive been waiting all week to see what the new challenge was going to be and I must say it is such a fitting theme to start off with.

The theme this week is SWEETS however you would like to interpret it, and you can make any thing you like!

All Papers, co-ordinating cardstock and stamps are by Stampin Up. Ive used Martha Stewart punches for the decorative edges and a Stampin Up corner punch. Ive coloured the image using Copics and have finished off with Fluffy Stuff for the top of the sundae, diamond glaze on the cherries and a few swarovski crystals.

This card reminds me of that lovely ice cream parlour in Scarborough - think I will have to raid the freezer now lol.

DCM Challenge - The Sound of Music

This week's dare is:-

" I want you to design a card which is 'Musically inspired'. Anything goes, whether you use musical paper, or an image of instrument - or even song lyrics".

I don't really know if hedgehogs and music go together lol but I just love this little fella and haven't had a chance to use him yet so he was going on a card whether I liked it or not! He's from Stamp Addicts and the musical happy birthday stamp is from Blade Rubber Stamps.

Music script background was courtesy of the internet and the strip of paper is from the Laura Ashley "contemporary" paper pack. Ive used Bazzill and DCWV textured cardstock, Nestabilities, Prima Hydrangeas, brads and eyelets. The cut out flowers are from a sheet of "Sherbet Fountain" from the Allsorts Range by Craftwork Cards.

Ive used Basic Grey "Lime Rickey" papers and DCWV Textured Cardstock. Flower centre is from a kit by K & Co and the sentiment is from Craftwork Cards. Ive also used a small daisy punch and the large orange flower and the adhesive gems are from my stash.

Cupcake Craft Challenge #39 - Card for a Man or Boy

This weeks challenge was set by Denise as follows:-

"For my challenge I would like 'a card for a man or boy' - only because everyone dislikes making this type of card so much LOL! It's so easy to make a card for a woman or girl as the embellishments at our disposal are vast but for those tricky men it's not so simple. Definitely what I would call a challenge! I can't wait to see your creations. "

I found this challenge site as I was 'blog hopping' and as my Brother's birthday is looming and he has just been on a cruise I thought this card would be so appropriate for him and just right for the challenge too! The papers and image are all downloaded from Kay Miller Designs "All Aboard" and the font is CK Fun Boxes from Scrap N Fonts which unfortunately has just recently been retired. The ship really does look like it's sailing right out of the front of the card!

As I often visit ICS for a little inspiration I thought it was about time I had a go at one of the challenges so this is my card for challenge #15. Ive used Basic Grey "Porcelain" and My Minds Eye "Bloom & Grow" papers. I cut out a frame using Nestabilities and sentiment is from a set of Melissa Frances clear stamps. Black jewels, flowers, brad and printed acetate were all from my stash.
