Cupcake Craft Challenge 50

This week's challenge at Cupcake Craft Challenges has been chosen by Stephanie. She's not only chosen a colour theme of Green, Pink and Brown she also loves Animals and Flowers so has asked for them to be included too!

This card is mainly made up of scraps left over from other projects. I just love these pink and green papers and I haven't very much left but I will have to try and squeeze something out of what is remaining.

Winter Wonderland - Christmas Tree Decorations

The challenge this week at Winter Wonderland is to make tree decorations. Great! I've finally found a use for the Ranger Memory Glass and Frames that have been sitting in my drawer for ages.

These were so simple - I just cut out two pieces of card and made two identical images for each frame, placed them back to back and fitted the glass and frames together as per the instructions.

Allsorts Challenge 11 - Dawny P Sketch with Marshmallow and Chocolate

Kirsten has chosen the theme of this weeks challenge at Allsorts - Marshmallow and Chocolate and she has combined it with a lovely sketch from Dawny P.

The Yummy Scrummy Papers from Craftwork Cards were the perfect choice to fulfill the Marshmallow and Chocolate element and I turned the sketch so that I could accommodate one of the new Gilded Cages stamps, also from Craftwork Cards. In fact everything except for the ribbon and Bazzill card stock I used for the matting and layering is from Craftwork Cards.

I've just had a look on their website too and there appears to be 3 more sets of stamps I haven't seen yet! Getting giddy already lol.

Polka Doodles - A Sketch

DCM Challenge - On the Edge!

Thank goodness for Daring Cardmakers this week. I've missed a few challenges recently due to some kind of crafting block - I suppose it happens to us all at some time or another. I still don't think I am back to 100% yet but this card came together quite quickly so am hopeful!

The challenge this week:-

We'd love to see you making use of all sorts of border treatments; scallops, trims, pleats, or anything else which makes the edges of your papers and cards look special. You could use Border Punches, Die Cutters, Lace, Fancy Trims and that's just for starters - let your imagination live right on the edge this week - or maybe even go right over the edge!

I used a selection of Sizzix flower dies to cut out the flower in felt which I then hand stitched and beaded. I matched the colours to some DCWV textured card stock and used Fiskars Apron Lace and Martha Stewart Doily Lace Border Punches, a strip of self adhesive paper lace and an Embossed Border from Craftwork Cards to create the base. Sentiment is from the "Oval All" set from Stampin Up cut out with their Oval and Scallop Oval matching punches. Just to finish off I added some stickles to the flowers on the border at the top just to give them a "lift" but it's not evident on the photo, sorry!

Rosie-Dee's Challenge - Wedding Theme

I'm really enjoying my Christmas card making at the moment so used this week's sketch to carry on the trend. I love this sketch and think it might just be my favourite one so far.

I just love this new Penny Black stamp it's called 'Majestic'. I already have the 'Fantasy' one and adore that stamp so when I saw this I just knew I had to have it.

Cupcake Challenge 48 - Blossoms & Butterflies

The title says it all for this week's challenge at CCC and was just perfect for using up some left over pieces of paper I have in my scrap box from the "Blossoms & Butterflies Stack" by DCWV.

Winter Wonderland - Christmas Present

In complete contrast to the quick and easy card I made for Polka Doodles this week - this card has taken me quite a bit longer to complete.

For the main image I first stamped Santa (EZMount Stamp from Posh) using Fired Brick distress ink, masked him out and then stamped the sleigh (Magnolia Stamp), masked Santa and sleigh and then stamped the trees (Magnolia Stamp). Keeping the masks on Santa and the sleigh I then used distress inks (Broken China, Shabby Shutters and Tattered Rose) to create the background and then used the "Field of Sky" stamp to add a bit of contrast.

I then used Copics to colour the trees, sleigh, presents and Santa's boots, belt and gloves. I added a Melissa Frances Rub-on Sentiment and faux stitching to the edge.

To finish off I used Woodware Fluffy Stuff and Glamour Dust on Santa's fluffy bits and mustache and just around the edge of his beard. I let this dry naturally instead of heat setting it.

After matting and layering, the image was placed on a background paper from HOTP that I decorated with a Sizzix Swirl, Prima Flowers and Liquid Pearls.

The card is also a large square one - I've used a Craftwork Cards 8" x 8" card blank.

Allsorts Challenge 9 - A Sketch

There's a great sketch to follow over at Allsorts this week designed by Debs and there's a super prize on offer too! So it's well worth taking part.

After colouring the flowers with Copics I covered the petals with Distress Stickles (worn lipstick) and when that had dried I covered them again with Diamond Glaze.

I made a simple banner and added a rub-on (Melissa Frances) and finished off with Card Candy and a black gem.

Polka Doodles - Get Well Card

This is the challenge at Polka Doodles this week:-

No sketch this week, just make a Get Well card using a bug/insect of some kind and an alternative to ribbon, ie string, raffia etc...good luck!....

I've really kept my card very simple this week. I've used the Polka Doodle Sugar Birdies CD to print off the background paper and flower, a Spellbinders Die for the butterfly and Studio G Stamp for the sentiment. I punched 2 holes in the flower and threaded string through and finished the card with glitter and a few gems on the butterfly.

This is a really quick and simple card so it just goes to show that you don't have to spend ages to create a special card - the beautiful papers can just do the job for you!!

Daring Cardmakers - Russian!

Well Rein has really got the old grey matter working with this week's challenge. This is what she set:-

It's Rein here this week and as our Russian girl Irina is here staying with us again my dare is put a matryoshka or another typical Russian element like dress, architecture, or... ..... on your card.

I haven't got anything in my card making stash that shouts out Russian so the only solution here was to turn to the internet and Google - "Russian Images" "Russian Song Scripts" "Russian Architecture" "Russian Dolls" - you name it I Googled it lol.

I found a couple of images I liked and then thought about the sentiment. So back to Google once again!

Buddy's Prize and Allsorts Winner from Challenge #8

Well it was well worth getting out of bed this morning! I checked my blog and there was a little hint from Brenda that there was something special over on the Allsorts Challenge Blog so I hopped over there and Wow... blow me down with a feather... my card was picked as the winner for challenge #8. Thank you so much!!! And whilst I'm typing this Mr Postie has just been and delivered a wonderful gift from Buddy for winning his birthday challenge - I will have hours of fun playing with the contents - big hugs to you Buddy. The package also included an absolutely gorgeous card from his mum Kath - I will so treasure this. Thank you so much.

ICSketches #24

This is Dawn's sketch this week over at ICS:-

I don't really know where this card/project came from this week. I was determined to use the Cosmo Cricket papers (Jack's World) that I bought at the Scrapping Angels Retreat in April. So I sat down with the sketch and the papers and this is what evolved:-

Only trouble now is I've got to get some recipes together to put on the inside lol. They've got to be quite simple one's too without many ingredients and made in 3 or less easy steps. I don't make things easy for myself do I!!

My first recipe is going to be Lemon Posset because this has got to be the easiest recipe ever!

LEMON POSSET

Ingredients:-

600 ml double cream

140g caster sugar

2 large lemons, juice and grated zest

Method:-

1. Put the double cream in a large pan with the sugar. Bring slowly to the boil and simmer for 3 minutes. Take it off the heat, add the lemon juice and zest and whisk well.

2. Pour into 6 ramekins and refrigerate for 2-3 hours. Sprinkle with pared lemon zest before serving.

If you like lemon puds you will definitely enjoy this one.

Buddy's Birthday Challenge Winner

Winter Wonderland - Christmas Past

Over at Winter Wonderland our challenge this week is to make a card based on the following:-

" What do the words "Christmas Past" conjure up in your mind? Maybe you think of Christmases from your own childhood, or even further back to a time when Christmas as we know it first began. Maybe as recently as last Christmas holds special memories for you ? The idea is there, the interpretation is with you."

This image always reminds me of a Christmas Tree we had when we were young albeit much smaller. It used to sit on the Sideboard and when we decorated it I just knew Christmas had begun. My mum used to get the lights and wrap them tightly around each branch squashing what bit of foliage that was on in the first place. Then we could help hang the baubles and the tinsel and the chocolate treats. I chuckle when I think of the little spindly tree but it did look lovely when it was trimmed and lit.

Whenever I use Blue and Green together it always takes me back to my Primary School days. I think we've all made the tray mats out of Binka. Well that was a project we were on with and the teacher asked us all to pick two colours of thread and I chose Blue and Green, Big Mistake, teacher insisted that blue and green did not go together - all the other kids were picking red and yellow, blue and red, green and yellow (you get the drift). Anyway I think the disappointment must have been evident on my face and the teacher let me have my own way and when they were all finished I think my mat looked the best lol! Was that a bit of artistic flair I was using at a tender age?? I wonder??
